K-On! manga to continue.

Posted by: | Comments (2)

Late last year I mentioned how the Genshiken manga was continuing and how excited I am about that.  I recently saw more good news, the K-On! manga is going to start up again!!!

I saw the good news on Sankaku Complex which is a great site but be warned, it’s not very safe for work.  There doesn’t seem to be much information yet on what the restarted manga will cover though I think most people suspect, and hope for, a continuation of their current story following the girls past High School to college.  If that’s what they end up doing I wonder how they will handle Azunyan’s time stuck in High School as she’s a year behind the other girls?

I know there are a number of people who don’t like K-On! and call it pointless and simply a “moeblob” anime but I think they may be missing the point.  I’ll agree that the show is filled with moe characters and situations, just look at the animated gif of Yui doing her Un-Tan dance.  The show is also about friendship and having fun in school.   If the K-On! was simply a mindless display of cuteness without substance I don’t believe there would have been as many people saying how emotional they got, even to the point of crying, at the last few episodes.  No matter what you may think of the show you can’t honestly deny that K-On! is very loved by it’s many fans.

Figma recreation of K-On! song.

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Figma version of K-on!! singing "Tenshi ni Fureta yo!" for AzunyanEpisode 24 of K-On!! aired just a few weeks ago and it contained one of the most touching songs from the Houkago Tea Time girls called “Tenshi ni Fureta yo!”   They four seniors wrote and preformed the song for Azunyan who is a year behind them and would not be graduating with them.  It’s a very good song and a wonderful touching statement to their kohai (underclassman) who was feeling sad about being left behind after her friends graduate.

Someone recently recreated the scene using Figma figures and stop animation and it’s really pretty amazing.  It’s no where near professional level but considering the amount of work involved to do something like this it’s really amazing and shows the love that Otaku can have for anime.  I’m sure their passion for K-On! kept them working for many many hours to complete it.

First up is the original anime scene for those who have not seen it.
(Be sure to switch to 720p quality when watching)

Here you can see the Figma video that someone created.
I hope it doesn’t get taken down.

Sure, there are a number of problems in the video and sometimes background furniture moves on it’s own (hehe) but it’s still rather amazing.

K-On! Movie is in our future.

Posted by: | Comments (2)

I’ve been a huge K-On! fan since the series started.  I was so happy that there was a second season, and not just 13 episodes but a full 26 episode season.

Now that we are at the end of this second season and the girls have graduated I was feeling sad about a world with no new K-On! in it.  Thankfully that has changed:

It’s been announced that a K-On! movie is in our future.

While I would rather see another series of K-On!, maybe one taking place while the girls are in college, a movie is nice.  It should also let us see some higher quality animation than what’s usually available in the TV series.

I think it makes good business sense that they would keep milking the K-On! cow as it’s such a huge success.  The Japanese anime industry has never been shy about monetizing their shows.  As an obsessive Otaku collector – I’m really fine with that.

Photoshoot – Mio Akiyama from K-On!

Posted by: | Comments (2)

A few weeks ago I got a new figure and finally got around to taking some pictures of it so I wanted to post them.  It’s FREEing’s 1/8 scale Mio Akiyama in her “Moe Moe Kyun” maid’s outfit.  I pre-ordered this figure back in February and have been eager to get it in.  Thankfully it’s just as nice as I thought it would be.

FREEing did a really great job in capturing the feel of Mio from the anime where she does her “Moe Moe Kyun” pose.

If you haven’t seen this before you really should be watching K-On!  But so you know what I’m referring to, here is a You Tube clip of that scene:
